An Irish Reception

stjohnswaterfront.You are invited to a reception at the Benevolent Irish Society on Harvey Road, Saturday Sept. 29, 4.30 to 6.30 p.m. to meet the Minister for the Irish Diaspora, Ciaran Cannon along with Geoffrey Keating, Director of the Irish Abroad Unit of the Dept. of Foreign Affairs.

 

Ciarán Cannon is an Irish Fine Gael politician who has served as Minister of State for the Diaspora and International Development since June 2017. He has been a Teachta Dála for the Galway East constituency since 2011. He previously served as Minister of State for Training and Skills from 2011 to 2014.

 

Geoffrey Keating has over thirty-five years’ experience as a diplomat in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. In 2000 he opened Ireland’s Consulate General in Shanghai and in 2005 became Ireland’s first resident ambassador to Bulgaria. In earlier postings he had served at the Holy See, in Boston and London. Following a secondment to the EU Affairs Division of the Department of the Taoiseach, Geoffrey served as Ambassador to Singapore from 2014 to 2018.

Also attending will be Ambassador Jim Kelly and Laura Finlay from the Irish Embassy in Ottawa.

Jim Kelly became Ambassador of Ireland to Canada in August 2016. He presented his credentials to the Governor General, His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnson at Rideau Hall, Ottawa, on 6th September 2016. The Embassy of Ireland is also accredited to Jamaica and the Bahamas and Ambassador Kelly expects to present his credentials in both countries in early 2017.
